Heroes seem rare these days. Many of the time honored role models of past generations have become tainted by scandel and misconduct in their ranks: from entertainment and sports figures to people in the highest public offices. Volunteer firefighter Mike Shropshire crawled through thick smoke in a burning trailer to save an infant's life (more)
- Rondrick Springer- London, U.K. - 2003
A man braves a raging fire in the EastEnd of London to save the lives of two young girls. He went up the stairs through the flames while others were forced back by the heat. Mr. Springer later died of his injuries. (more)
- Yuqing Chen - Montreal, QC. Canada - 2002
Mr. Chen ran to the banks of a frozen river and pulled a little girl to safety who had fallen through thin ice about 10 yards fron shore. (more)

In the aftermath of hurricane Katrina Mike, a former firefighter and EMT, and his daughter, a nurse, worked with other volunteers to run a nurses' station at a 300-person shelter in Morganza, Louisiana. (more)

Laura and Annie raised funds to purchase, and will donte their time to deliver, a mobile home to a pastor's family in New Orleans who's home was destroyed. The pastor and his family were so busy helping others they failed to consider their own dilema. (more)

An 11 year old girl sets an example for us all as she donates to the local Salvation Army's efforts to help the less fortunate. (more)
