Heroes seem rare these days. Many of the time honored role models of past generations have become tainted by scandel and misconduct in their ranks: from entertainment and sports figures to people in the highest public offices. - Rondrick Springer- London, U.K. - 2003
A man braves a raging fire in the EastEnd of London to save the lives of two young girls. He went up the stairs through the flames while others were forced back by the heat. Mr. Springer later died of his injuries. (more)
- Yuqing Chen - Montreal, QC. Canada - 2002
Mr. Chen ran to the banks of a frozen river and pulled a little girl to safety who had fallen through thin ice about 10 yards fron shore. (more)
