| * Why Should I Believe ? |
Why would man intentionally invent evil and bring it on himself? The fact that the definition of what is good and what is evil varies in different cultures can lead a person to think that we ourselves control these concepts, and that there are no absolutes. Humans do control cultural norms, but not the existance of good and evil. Although many would credit this to socialization, the fact that people have a conscience is proof, to some degree, that the knowledge of good and evil are built into man's psyche. In law there two classes of crimes, mala prohibita, and mala en se. The former refers to crimes that are crimes just because the law says so. Our cultures, governments, and social structure define these. Mala en se crimes are those that are just plain wrong. These are absolutes. Even in a society that may condone murder as a right of passage, murder is condemned under other circumstances. In gang culture it's acceptable to rob or even kill someone, but not to rob or kill a brother in your own gang. I invite you to the DISCUSSIONS bulletin board to make suggestions, voice your opinion, or comment on any of these, or any other topics. ****************************************************************************** - Thanks, Daryl |
